Title: “Floating Yogini”
Medium: Pencil, Digital Painting, 2012
Fourth in my pole series. My friend, Heidi Neilson, performed this Yogini inspired dance for the 2010 Polestars competition in Los Angeles. Back when I was a beginner, I watched Heidi rehearse this piece in the dance studio and my jaw hit the FLOOR when I saw her get into this pose. Watching her dance, I knew I wanted to get stronger and become a more confident person. Her interpretation of her character made it really easy for me to paint her as a gravity defying yogini in a beautiful world. Please watch the routine here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc-1vlLrJ5Y
By the way, she totally came to my house and taught me this pose. I’m so excited!
When I saw that in your picture I thought, “Holy hell, how is that possible?” but I see she’s using her foot to brace.
Still, very impressive! It must take a lot of muscle tension to hold that.
And it was that bracing foot that eluded me from doing this move for a year!
